Head of Risk Management – Foreign Bank (NYC)

Lead the full risk function for the U.S. operations of a global financial institution, covering Operational Risk, Market/Liquidity Risk, and Information Security. This strategic, high-visibility role reports to the U.S. General Manager with a dotted line to Group CRO and sits on multiple key committees.

What You’ll Lead

  • Oversight of 1st Line Risk Management, including operational, market, liquidity, and information security risk.

  • Implementation and monitoring of Group-wide risk frameworks, ensuring alignment with U.S. regulatory expectations.

  • Information Security oversight, managing the CISO and ensuring strong cyber and IT risk governance.

  • Participation in major committees: Risk & Compliance, Cyber Security, IT Steering, ALCO, Compliance, and Operations/Business Continuity/Third-Party Risk.

  • Managing and developing a small team (LORM + CISO).

Key Responsibilities

  • Build and maintain a strong, compliant risk environment aligned with Group risk appetite.

  • Identify, assess, monitor, and report risks across all U.S. business activities.

  • Provide risk input for strategy, new products, and business initiatives.

  • Oversee contingency funding, business continuity, and operational resilience.

  • Ensure timely escalation and remediation of risk issues.

  • Serve as the point of contact for regulators and internal audit.

  • Act as RCC Secretary.

What We’re Looking For

  • Deep experience in risk management within banking or financial services.

  • Strong knowledge of operational risk, market/liquidity risk, and information security.

  • Experience working closely with business lines and implementing group-level frameworks locally.

  • Operational management background with strong IT/cyber affinity.

  • Excellent stakeholder management and communication skills.

  • Ability to represent the risk function at senior levels and drive governance forward.
