A global financial institution is seeking an experienced AVP Legal Counsel to join its in-house legal and compliance team. This role is ideal for a legal professional with strong experience in banking, loan documentation review, and Anti-Bribery and Corruption (ABAC) compliance.
Key Responsibilities:
Contracts and Transactions

Draft, review, and negotiate contracts, loan agreements, and other legal documents

Provide legal advice on contract status, associated risks, and rights/liabilities related to transactions

Support the development and implementation of legal risk parameters across all agreements
Legal Risk Assessment & Advisory

Conduct legal research and advise on issues impacting the bank’s operations and new initiatives

Perform legal risk assessments for new products and services

Guide internal departments in identifying and mitigating legal risks tied to banking activities

Participate in strategic legal projects and provide cross-functional legal support
Compliance and Governance

Offer legal counsel on Anti-Bribery and Corruption (ABAC) compliance, as well as other regulatory matters (e.g., BSA/AML, OFAC)

Review, draft, and update internal policies and compliance procedures

Liaise with external counsel, reviewing their legal opinions and providing second-level internal review as needed
Qualifications:

JD or LLM from an accredited U.S. law school

Licensed to practice law in the U.S. (New York State Bar preferred)

Minimum of 5 years of legal experience, ideally within a banking or financial services institution

Proven experience in reviewing loan documentation, contracts, and compliance matters

Familiarity with Anti-Bribery and Corruption (ABAC) regulations preferred

Strong research, communication, and legal risk analysis skills
- Ability to work independently and in collaboration with cross-functional teams
