Job Title: VP Commodity Finance
Location:Manhattan
Base Salary -$110k-230k depending on skills and experience
Overview:
The VP Commodity Finance will be responsible for assessing and managing the credit risks associated with commodity finance and ensuring the bank’s risk policies and procedures are adhered to. This role involves conducting credit evaluations, monitoring asset quality, preparing portfolio reports, and providing guidance to junior team members. The VP will also ensure policies are updated according to regulatory changes and will contribute valuable industry insights to the management team.
Responsibilities:
Credit Risk Review:
- Evaluate Creditworthiness: Conduct in-depth evaluations of borrowers’ credit profiles, considering factors such as financial performance, management, industry conditions, and market factors.
- Critique Credit Proposals: Independently challenge and critique credit proposals, ensuring they conform to the bank’s policies and risk appetite. Document key points and rationale for decisions.
- Recommendations: Provide comments on key terms, policy exceptions, risk ratings, and post-lending requirements to ensure alignment with the bank’s policies.
- Support Loan Structuring: Work with business units’ account officers to help structure loans and manage exposures effectively. Support due diligence when appropriate.
Portfolio Management:
- Annual/Quarterly Reviews: Conduct periodic reviews of existing credits as required, ensuring ongoing asset quality and risk management.
- Monitor Market Trends: Stay updated on industry trends and assess the impact of negative news on the portfolio. Manage exceptions and the pipeline of credit requests.
Knowledge and Learning:
- Industry Expertise: Cultivate in-depth knowledge of the commodities sector, including energy, agriculture, and metals & mining, with a focus on financial institutions.
- Regulatory Awareness: Stay informed on banking products and regulatory requirements. Continuously develop expertise in market conditions and credit risk management practices.
- Professional Growth: Demonstrate continuous learning and improvement in applying industry concepts and skills to daily tasks.
Qualifications:
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Economics, Accounting, or a related field; MBA preferred.
- Experience: At least 7 years of experience in credit risk management and financial statement analysis, ideally with a focus on commodity finance.
- Industry Knowledge: Strong understanding of the commodities sector (energy, agriculture, metals & mining) and experience with financial institutions.
- Credit Markets Expertise: Solid knowledge of corporate lending, trade and commodity finance, structured products, FX, and derivatives.
- Certifications: CFA, CPA, or FRM is a plus.
